4 Effective Home Remedies for Sore, Cracked and Stinky Feet
It’s almost flip-flop season. Someone is happy about it, but someone is annoyed by their cracked heels and their feet that have gotten black from shoes they have worn. Most of the shoes we wear during hot summer days make our feet sweat, and as a result, they smell.
The unpleasant odor is a result of mixing of the sweat with certain type of bacteria. There are not much products that can help you solve this problem, but there is something you can do at home. The things that may help are the following:
1. Shaving cream to help heal dryness
- First, put a greater amount of shaving cream on your feet
- Mix Listerine and warm water in equal quantities
- Soak a towel in this mixture and then wrap it around your feet. The shaving cream should still be on your feet and you should leave it that way for an hour
- After the one hour period, rub off the shaving cream and thus remove the outer part of the skin which is dry or black
- Put some lotion to additionally moisturize your feet
2. Vegetable oil
You can use olive oil, sesame oil, coconut oil or any other vegetable oil.
- First you should wash your feet well in soapy water and scrub them with a pumice stone
- After you have done that, dry them well.
- Apply the vegetable oil you have chosen to use
- Put on clean socks and have them on all night while you sleep. Notice the difference in the morning
- Repeat the process until all cracks are gone
3. Vaseline
Use Vaseline or petroleum jelly to have your feet soft and moisturized
- Soak your feet in warm water and then scrub the dead skin off them. Apply the petroleum jelly, which you can add a teaspoon of lemon juice in.
- Put on a pair of socks while the jelly soaks well in
- It would be for the best if you do this before going to sleep, because if you do this during day, you will have to leave the socks on until your skin soaks all the petroleum jelly.
4. Warm salt water bath
This method is not only good for feet care, but also improves circulation. You can use Epsom salt or sea salt
- Put some warm water in a tub and add half a cup of Epsom salt
- Soak your feet into the tub for 10-15 minutes
- After having scrubbed your feet with pumice stone, repeat the process once again
- Dry your feet and put on some cream or petroleum jelly to keep the moisture as long as you can
- To boost the effect, put on a pair of socks that will help you in stopping the moisture to evaporate
Bonus:
5. Meshed bananas
Bananas are one of the best and cheapest remedies for your heels because of their moisturizing features
- Mash a banana and make a paste. After having cleaned your feet, apply the paste on them
- Leave the banana paste on for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse your feet and soak them in cold water for 5-10 minutes
- For best results, repeat this every day for few weeks
6. Honey
