5 Natural Home Remedies For Ganglion Cysts!
A ganglion cyst is actually a rather small, encircling lump or bag full of thick and sticky fluid. The ganglion cyst most commonly appears in the tendons or joints, and it can have various sizes, from very small to one inch in diameter. The ganglion cysts most often occur in the tendons and joints situated in the fingers, wrists, ankles and the soles of the feet.
Ganglion Cysts Symptoms
The most common symptoms of ganglion cysts are pain and discomfort accompanied by burning sensation and itchiness, muscle cramps and numbness in the affected area. These cysts can be either firm or soft, depending on their size.
It is not yet known why these cysts appear, but there are some assumptions that exist among experts who say that injuries and tendon irritation can lead to the occurrence of these unpleasant cysts.
People aged between fifteen and forty have been proven to be more liable to these cysts, especially women (gymnasts in particular), as they provide constant stress to their wrists. People who suffer from osteoarthritis and people who have undergone some kind of tendon or joint trauma are also more susceptible to this problem.
We need to say that there are some ganglion cysts that can be treated with regular pharmaceutical medications and home remedies, but there are some cases where surgical removal is the only logical and permanent solution.
Natural Remedies for Ganglion Cysts
Prior to choosing to remove the ganglion cyst surgically, you should try some natural remedies. Here are some natural homemade remedies that can help you get rid of the ganglion cysts.
1. Black tea bags
Black tea is acidic in nature and helps in curing ganglion cysts. Moreover, it can stop their growth and aggravation. Black tea is known to have strong anti-inflammatory effects, which means that it also has the ability to relieve pain and swelling. If you decide to use black tea, first you need to soak a bag of black tea into some boiled water for nearly five minutes.
Afterwards, take out the bag, squeeze it well and place it directly on the problematic area while the bag is still moist and warm. Let the bag stay on for about ten minutes. Repeat this three to four times a day for at least three days.
2. Frankincense oil
This is well known oil that is a powerful astringent and it has been confirmed to be efficient when it comes to reduction of the size of ganglion cysts and protecting the body from their reoccurring. This oil can also soothe the pain. If you decide to use frankincense oil, apply two to three drops of it directly on the cyst, and cover the area using a soft, clean bandage.
Repeat this treatment every day. It is important that you use a new, clean bandage every time you do this procedure. Continue the treatment until you see improvement, and even after that, because performing the process for a week or two after the cysts has completely gone will stop its reoccurrence.
3. Aloe Vera
Everyone knows how beneficial aloe Vera is and that it has excellent anti-inflammatory effects. Aloe Vera can also be used for treating ganglion cysts. This plant is beneficial as it reduces pain and swelling. For starting the treatment process, extract the gel from the leaves of aloe Vera plant and apply it on the problematic area. Leave the gel work for about twenty minutes and then wash it off using warm water. Repeat this two to three times per day for at least three days.
4. Arnica oil
This remedy has strong anti-inflammatory effects and can relieve swelling, pain and inflammation. Arnica oil can improve the blood flow, and thus accelerate the healing process. Start by mixing arnica and coconut or olive oil (1:1 ratio). Then, apply this mixture directly on the cyst, gently rubbing. Next, put a bandage on the affected area. You should repeat this procedure two to three times daily for at least three days. Do not forget that in case you have sensitive skin, you may feel some discomfort as this oil is pretty strong. In case you see some reaction on your skin, do not perform this procedure.
5. Epsom salt
This ingredient has numerous uses, one of them being healing and reducing ganglion cysts in a matter of days. Epsom salt has the ability to relieve inflammation and pain associated to this health problem. You should just pour one tablespoon of Epsom salt in two cups of lukewarm water and your remedy is done.
Next, soak the problematic area into this solution and keep it there for half an hour. Repeat this procedure every day for at least four days.
If you want to reduce the pain and swelling related to ganglion cysts, eat more food that has anti-inflammatory effects, including turmeric, ginger, and salmon. If you note that the cyst has increased in size or if the pain that it causes does not go away and becomes more and more intense, you should go and see your doctor.
