Missing teeth can affect the structure and a person’s face shape because the teeth prevent sagging of the face muscles. Dentures are used to replace the missing teeth and improve a person’s smile. Glendale dentures and partials provide high quality partial and full dentures for patients.

What are dentures?

A denture is a detachable replacement for missing teeth and its surrounding tissues. There are two types of dentures – partial dentures and complete dentures.

Complete dentures are applicable where all teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used where some teeth are missing.

Complete dentures can be immediate or conventional. They are made after teeth are removed, and the gum has started healing. A conventional denture is ready for placement in the mouth after the teeth have been extracted for about eight to twelve weeks.

Immediate dentures are made early and can be placed after the teeth are removed, so the patient doesn’t have to stay without teeth during the healing period. But gums and bones contract over time, mostly during the healing period after teeth removal. This means that you will need several adjustments to fit during the healing process. It’s only considered to be a temporary solution waiting for conventional dentures to be made.

Partial dentures or bridges consist of teeth attached to a gum-colored plastic base connected by metal frames sometimes that hold the dentures in the mouth. Partial dentures are applied when some natural teeth are remaining in the lower or upper jaw. A fixed partial denture replaces teeth by placing crowns on either side of the denture and attaching temporary teeth.  This partial denture is cemented into place. A partial denture fills spaces made by missing teeth and prevents other teeth from switching position. They give a natural look.

How are dentures made?

The dentures making process takes several weeks and appointments. Once your dentist determines the type of appliances that are best for you, the steps to be followed are:

· Making a series of marks on your jaws and taking measurements of how your jaws relate to each other and the space between them.

· Create wax forms, models, or plastic patterns in the original position and shape of the dentures to be made. You will fit in these models severally, and the denture will be evaluated for shape, color, and fit until the final denture is achieved.

· Cast final denture.

· Make adjustments if necessary.

Benefits of dentures

Preserve your facial smile. The tooth’s bone structure has a big impression on the way your face looks. When you lose most of your teeth, the bone structure is lost. Dentures help restore the shape that was there before the teeth were removed. They are designed to maintain the facial structure.

Give you a confident smile. Dentures give you a beautiful smile, and you can stop isolating yourself. You need to worry about how your teeth will look to others.

Allow you to eat the foods you enjoy. Missing some or all of your teeth can limit you from eating certain types of food. But dentures can help you eat foods that you want without frustrations.

You can cause serious harm to your health and dentures by trying to repair or adjust your denture. If your denture cracks, breaks, or chips, call your dentist immediately. Start the process of rebuilding your smile by booking an appointment with Alta Canyada Dental Group.
