When you start cooking spaghetti, first you need to take a deep pot. Then, add some cold water and the spaghetti in it and put it on a heat to boil. According to some, it is better to add some salt to make it boil faster. This is applicable for pasta in general, not only spaghetti.

After the water has boiled, add the spaghetti noodles, stirring to separate them. The best way would be to use fork for the separation, and at the same time make sure that the whole length is submerged. While the pasta is cooked, stir it often to prevent its sticking to the pan.

This is the way of cooking pasta which is familiar to all of us. Well, we’ve been cooking it wrong all this time. There’s a much better way which is not only quicker, but also provides greater amount of liquid for the sauces or other cooking.

The first step is taking a frying pan, as strange as it may sounds. But, this is the more effective way. Then, add the spaghetti noodles, before you put water in it.

The third step is pouring water, a quart of it over the spaghetti. The water should be cold, and this is one of the great differences between the right and wrong cooking. You should only use a quart and a half of water. This is another difference.

In cold water the spaghetti won’t stick to each other. The smaller amount of water is due to the frying pan we use instead of the deep pot.

The pasta is cooked resourcefully, providing a stock for other cooking of the water that remains. This is much better than draining the huge amount of water you have used. Besides saving water, you save energy at the same time.
