Acetyl-salicylic acid has a number of favorable effects on the human body, and it has been used since 1898th to produce one of the oldest drugs, aspirin, who claimed to have manifold effects. These effects are actually proven. However, there is also a natural source of acetyl-salicylic acid, which is organically grown in fruits and vegetables.healthy-food-list-for-kids

The first feature that was observed in aspirin, even when the German company Bayer patented it 1898th year is its soothing effect on inflammation. It inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which participates in the production of prostaglandins, the prostaglandins are essential factors of pain and inflammation.

Exactly with the same mechanism of blocking cyclooxygenase, aspirin prevents the synthesis of thromboxane, which material leads to the formation of blood clots. The extensive research and clinical trials conducted in the 60s and 70s proved that in a group of 1,000 patients who had already survived a heart attack aspirin reduced the subsequent mortality by 25%, and subsequent studies have shown that regular daily intake of aspirin reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke by 33%.

Salicylic acid is similar to a vitamin

Yet subsequent studies have suggested that aspirin may act as an antioxidant that can prevent breast cancer and colon, as well as to be able to act preventively in Alzheimer’s disease – it is assumed, again with its anti-inflammatory effect on the inhibition of prostaglandin.

How one so simple remedy can have this versatile effects?

In this case, the thing is that salicylic acid, the main ingredient in aspirin, is not really a cure, but an essential ingredient of nutrition! Our bodies need acetyl-salicylic acid in the same way as it needs vitamins.

It has been shown that acetyl-salicylic acid is part of a large amount of fruits and vegetables, but significantly higher in organically grown, especially one that is only slightly crushed (which in modern conditions of consumption is largely rejected!). By the effect on the body is similar to salicylic acid vitamins. When they are enough, everything is fine, but when there is a shortage – they can create a longer term disorder in the body. Since with the modern diet people are missing salicylates (salicylic acid are salts), that vacancy is filled with a drug called aspirin.

Unfortunately, like any other drug it has some undesirable effects and contraindications, and not always the best option.

However, with the consumption of salicylates naturally – through fruits and vegetables – it has the same positive effects on the human body like the medical studies have confirmed that they have with aspirin.

A vegetarian diet instead of pills

Studies that were once performed on Buddhist monks, who are vegetarians, have shown that they have higher levels of salicylates in the blood from the controlled group. Therefore, thanks to the already mentioned actions of salicylic acid, they have a lower risk of heart attack and stroke, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Thus, a diet rich in salicylates – based on fruit and vegetables, primarily organic – has all the positive effects that has aspirin, and at the same time there are no side effects that can cause the pills with acetyl-salicylic acid, known as aspirin.
