Water is the most important element our body needs to stay healthy and thriving, because without water there wouldn’t be any life on the planet. Every time you’re either thirsty, or dehydrated or hot, you crave a glass of ice cold water. There’s this golden rule for drinking water that everyone knows: drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water every single day and this will provide to your body the necessary hydration.

Yet, not everyone respects this rule and follows it. Some of them don’t have the time to focus on that and don’t think about it at all, or fail to keep track of the water consumption. Generally, it is not that easy to always know whether you have consumed enough water or not.

Many people think that drinking water immediately before going to sleep will disturb their good night’s sleep. This, of course, is not true. This myth has appeared because some people think that drinking water before going to bed will lead to getting up in the middle of the night to pee.

Maybe this is true for certain people, but, in general, drinking a glass of water before bed time provides better night rest because the water prevents leg cramps during the night. Those who suffer from these cramps know how awful it is to be awakened in the middle of the night by this terrible pain.

When the muscles in your legs actually do cramp up, they are searching for hydration. So, consuming only a glass of water before going to sleep eases these cramps, but it also benefits your body in other ways. Some of them are eliminating toxins from your body and avoiding a heart attack or a stroke.

If you compare the effects that might result from drinking some water before night sleeping, it would be clear that there are much more beneficial effects which really help your body, compared to the one little issue that you might get up in the night and go to the bathroom.

It is always better to be awakened by the need for peeing, than by a leg cramp.

A glass of water before going to bed is not the only beneficial amount of water you consume during the day. There are other ideal timings for drinking a glass of water that will maximize the effectiveness of the body. These are the following:

1) Immediately after you wake up.

Drinking a glass or two in the morning is really beneficial because it activates and wakens all the internal organs in our body.

2) Right before each meal.

If you drink a glass of water about half an hour before you eat you will improve your digestion. In this way, your stomach is prepared for the food that follows and it’s already been activated. Not only that, by drinking water before the meal, you help yourself to lose some weight and eat less, because the water you have consumed takes a good part of the stomach and you become fuller for a shorter period of time and for a smaller amount of food.

3)Before and after exercising.

If you drink a glass of water every time before you set off for a workout and every time you are done with it, you keep your body safe from dehydration, which is happening due to perspiration.

4)Every time you feel tired.

If you have had a long day and you are now exhausted and slow, have a glass of water. This amount of water will make you and your body ready to act and alert.

These are the recommended timings for optimal body function, but, of course, you are free to and you should drink a glass of water anytime you want to and you feel the need for it. Don’t deprive yourself from the basic element your body needs.
